My name is Connie Calderón, I was born in Mexico City on September 27, 1964. On August 31, 1975, the Lord brought my family and I to the United States. I grew up in Lynwood, California and graduated from Lynwood High School and then attended and graduated from California State University, Los Angeles. I am the first college graduate in my family, my parents only went up to third grade. I have one sister who served the Lord as a Lutheran educator and principal for 10 years and I have one brother who is also a Lutheran teacher and has served for the last 20 years.
In 1986 I started attending Redeemer Lutheran Church and became an active member in Pastor Sarria’s church. Right after graduating from CSULA in 1988, I started teaching at Redeemer Lutheran School and since then I have been a Lutheran educator.
I got married in 1992 to Albert Calderon at Peace Lutheran Church, Pico Rivera and in 1996 the Lord blessed us with twins, Julian and Patricia. My kids attended Redeemer Lutheran School from kindergarten to 5th grade and I taught there for 14 years. The Lord took us to Ascension Lutheran Church and School where my kids attended the Jr. High from 6th - 8th. I taught at Ascension for 9 years and started serving at Pacific Lutheran Jr./Sr. High School 6 years ago. I have taught 2nd through 8th grade and am very fortunate to start teaching World History to 10th graders this school year. I have been teaching for the last 34 years and I'm still having fun and looking forward to teach for at least 5 more years. I love what the Lord has called me to do, teaching. It is not a job but a call and an opportunity to make disciples of all nations.
My students play an important role in my life and will always be in my heart. I know for sure it is not a coincidence they are in my classroom for 10 months, but it is God’s perfect plan for them and for me.
I enjoy walking, traveling, and watching historical documentaries as well as traveling videos. Luther’s Reformation is one of my favorite lessons to teach in the fall. I have 3 cats: Mimi, Baby, and Benie and one dog, Ruffy who is about 15 years old.
